Feliz 2014.....

So after our failed Thanksgiving day....  my husband, my hero... really got me back to reality...  he just said.. are you surprised? didn't you expected something like that?

I must admit... I always think I can predict Gabby's behaviors, her wants and needs and all Gabby situations possibles.... But I have to be reminded... the unpredictable will always be there... Its so easy to fall into a very strict routine to make it work that I forget to expect other outcomes.

This year I didn't get to sit with the family for dinner... but I'm grateful....

  • For having understanding family members who didn't make us feel bad because we couldn't stay
  • for not giving us a hard time for having a spoiled kid who does what she wants, but more understanding that YES she is different, and tonight wasn't her night....
  • For having friends who I can call and tell them the story and they will laugh with me ...
  • For my hero, mu husband who patiently waited for the green monster ( me) to calm down and quickly found a place who luckily had a thanksgiving plate!! (yeah how about that???? )
  • and again for my family who put up with us again on Saturday and let us come over again and have a do over.... even when Gabby was done after finishing her meal....

It happens... I can predict her anymore... I have to be prepared... and will continue to carry a big tote bag and feel like Mary Poppins... with infinitive amount of "in case she needs it" items.....

and I'm grateful because she gives me that smile that makes me feel that despite the changes on her routine... she is a happy girl...

Having Autism during Thanksgiving...

For most of our autistic families, "be ready for the unexpected" is a must.
Going out of the routine is a sin.... and you pay the consequences... regardless of the time of day or the place you  are,.. even the people who are around you.

this time... I can say.. I should've known....

So here is the Thanksgiving story of 2013.

We were due to go to my brother in law's place... our planning included coming almost to the time dinner was going to be ready and almost at the table, as we know Miss G. is an impatient one and dinner time is always at the same time no matter where we are....
Sure enough we arrived but night time is almost on us... Mistake number one... We should've leave earlier specially when going to a place we dont visit except for the holidays.
Mistake number 2... we forgot to explain to Miss G where were we going and who we were going to see... ( except we didnt have pictures of the family!!)
Mistake number 3... suround her by most family members asking her to get out of the car.....

I was ready to cry... I was hungry and really looking forward to this time... Food is always amazing!!! my mother in law cooks delicious!!! I love her Thanksgiving dinners.... My sister in law makes an amazing sweet potatoe casserole... ahhh... well... you get the idea...

After 20 minutes of fruitless efforts...  we left... my stomache growled.. my husband was just hoping that at least the chinese place was open because Wife was becoming the green monster.....
the ride back home has never been so awful!!!

we were passing houses that their driveways were full of cars and I could imagine the families getting together, eating all the yummy food....
and Gabby in her car seat just chilling with her ipad....

Well... Im still gratefull for her in my life... because she makes it interesting... and unpredictable.
Maybe next reunion... we will make it to the door!!.

Happy thanksgiving everyone...!!

Lo bueno lo malo y lo... asqueroso????

Ok....

Pues bien despues de desayunar me dice con su maquina "I want to go out, I need shoes"....

ME MUEROOOOOOOOOOOO

Love my hobby....

I have always or as long as I can remember a craft person... I know I take that from my mom... all my memories as a kid are filled of my mom doing something crafty... from 3D pictures, to stuff animals, learning how to bake...... and everything in between....

I love having that from my mom... Even when we are living far from each other... I have that with me all the time....

Well.. There are many crafty things that I had always wanted to do.... and lately I took on youtube and some friends to learn to knit and crochet.... and had a blast....

Soon.. I wasn't happy with just learning stitches.. I wanted to do more... and in a few weeks got to make some blankets for our winter afternoons by the fire....

Then.. my little one took it to her room... and DUH>>> how come I haven't make one for her....

so got new yarns.. and got to it.... it was the best feeling seeing that blanket "grow"... row by row... color by color my excitement was getting bigger....
Gabby was eyeing me all the time... and from time to time she would pull the big mass of colors and cover herself....

I finish it.... it turned out to my eyes ok.... but what got me to feel amazing was that Gabby took it to her room as soon as I was done and showed it to her.....
She has been sleeping with that blanket the whole year....

Now i understand how my mom loved to do her stuffed animals... because we would have them after she was done making them....
what an amazing feeling....

What if....

Have you ever though if something you did in your past.. would've have affected your present??

I mean.. I look at how my life turned out. The friends I have and had, the decisions I made, the paths that I took.. all were just driving me to this moment.

I am a God believer... I do think HE has draw a book or a road for us to follow... there are signs everywhere that guide us to where we are now... or where we were supposed to be.. and the choice is always ours to follow or not....

So... I think I did follow them... I loved my friends and I loved my jobs.... I love that I was able to take these decisions....
If i didn't maybe I wouldn't be the luckiest mom of Gabby.... She wouldn't be here today!..
I cant imagine what life would be if i wasn't made to be her mom....
Yes I get tired... Yes its hard.... but its so worth it...
Everyday I wake up to her voice is another blessed day,... Every new day is an opportunity to witness a miracle right here right now.

Im one lucky girl... who met the right guy to raise this wonderful girl....
