Dia # 8 a hair cut!!!!!

A hair cut.... In the autism world.. it is NOT an easy activity, nor you find people willing to go the distance to help you with this...
The sensory of the hair salon is way different than other settings... there are many unknown people around you, very bright lights... people chatting laughing and some other kids sometimes screaming too... you have the smells from the products, and the sounds of the hair blowers and razors...

The chairs look pretty much like the dentist ones...  and hear the snip snip from the scissors is not easy either..
Washing hair in a place that is not the bathroom by someone else that is not mommy... not easy
the worst part... detangle the long locks that have been denied too long due to the sensitivity of the hair and head....

But... when you get to find a therapist who tells you: it's possible.. we can have a hair cut without melt downs... you have to do it...

So last Saturday I took Gabby to visit Franky. We walked at the Hair Cuttery. we said Hi we looked around. all the way to his station. and I said We'll see you Wednesday after swimming....
Loud and clear so Gabby can hear it.

long shot since we dont get hair cuts often enough.. It's a whole production to do it!! I carry a bag of goodies, the ipad, token board, pictures to show her the rewards she will get if she stay still while she gets her hair cut....

To give you an idea... the first time we took her to get her hair cut... it took 5 people to de tangle her hair, no cape, no hair wash, while her therapist Lindsay and I were holding her so she can have a semi decent hair cut...
Franky raised to the challenge and sure enough Gabby looked soooo pretty....

Second time... less people more success...

This time... she let Franky put the cape on... detangle her hair, and comb it over and over and over....
She didn't steam, she didn't grind her teeth, she didn't flap... she didn't wiggle...
She looked relax and in peace...
we were amazed. Gabby was behaving like a little lady getting her hair done...

Seriously??? is this happening??? she is actually loving the hair cut????  YES SHE IS>..

So thank you Franky for your patience, and Thank you Allison for design a program to cut her hair...

Gabby looks amazing and I'm a happy mom today.
